Formation
Moi Caprice was formed in 1993 when the band members were in high school, initially under the name Concrete Puppet Frog. They first gained fame in 1997 (by then under the name Moi Caprice) when they became the first unsigned band ever to top the Danish Alternative Chart. "The Sun & the Silence" held the number one position for three consecutive weeks at the end of 1997.
Situated in Northern Jutland, Moi Caprice toured at some of the largest festivals in Denmark and at the end of 1998 they signed with Lidocaine, an underground label. Unfortunately, Lidocaine went bust during the recording of Moi Caprice's debut, leaving the band without a contract. However, over the next few years Moi Caprice developed a cult-following, with their original demo becoming popular across Denmark.
In 2001, Moi Caprice, now situated in Copenhagen, added a new bass player and in January 2002 they played a sold-out Copenhagen concert. A few months later the band (by now with a new label) released the "Daisies & Beatrice" EP and the song "Daisies" topped Denmark's Alternative Chart for seven weeks and achieved popularity on radio. After releasing the "Summerfool" EP in late 2002, at the end of the year Moi Caprice were nominated at the Radio Awards for Talent of the Year.
Once Upon a Time in the North
Moi Caprice released the EP "Artboy Meets Artgirl" in January 2003 which led to the band achieving wider popularity. The title song became one of the most played songs of the year and was named Single of the Week by P3, setting things up nicely for the release of their first album "Once Upon a Time in the North" in March 2003. The album was met with highly positive reviews and Moi Caprice toured extensively across Denmark, including performing at the Spot Festival and the Roskilde Festival. Once Upon a Time in the North also produced several radio hit songs, as five singles were released from the album.
You Can't Say No Forever
Following the tour, Moi Caprice spent early 2004 working on new songs. Then in August, Moi Caprice began recording of their highly anticipated second album, which lasted for five months. "You Can't Say No Forever" was released in March 2005, preceded by its first single "To the Lighthouse" in January, which was named single of the week by P3 and the Danish televised music show Boogie. The song topped the alternative chart and made the top 10 of the radio singles chart. The single "My Girl You Blush" was also a hit on the mainstream and alternative charts.
Again the album received rave reviews, with some critics viewing it as a masterpiece. Moi Caprice even gained a nomination at the Radio Awards for the grand prize in early 2006.
The Art of Kissing Properly
Later in 2006, the band released their third album "The Art of Kissing Properly" which received high praise. Like other albums, it topped the alternative chart and it also gave Moi Caprice two Danish Music Award nominations, along with four Critics Award nominations. They also won the best band award at Steppeulven, the Danish critics award. The singles "Drama Queen" and "The Town and the City" were both hits.
We Had Faces Then
In 2008, Moi Caprice released their fourth album "We Had Faces Then" which was also a success. Then in 2009, "All We Fear is Love - A Singles Collection" was released.
Becoming Visible
In 2019, Moi Caprice released two singles from their upcoming fifth album: "Maureen" in June, followed by "Teenagers" in September. Then in January 2020, the band released the third single "Orpheus". And on 28 February 2020, Moi Caprice's fifth album "Becoming Visible" was released.
Moi Caprice went on to release even more music in 2020, with the four-song EP "The Places We Have Loved" appearing in August. Then the Christmas-themed EP "Advent" came out in December, also consisting of four songs.
Nine Lives
The single "Eight Years" was next released by Moi Caprice in June 2021, followed by "Changing Together" in September 2021. In 2022, Moi Caprice released the singles "Crocodile Tears" in February and "Someone to Lean On" in April, before finally releasing "Nine Lives", their sixth album, in May.
Moi Caprice's singer, Michael Møller, has released three solo albums and has also been a part of the bands The Mountains (along with brothers Frederik Nordsø and Fridolin Nordsø), Kidmo Laran and Michael Møller & Foreign Lands.
